Happy Sunday TKW Family!  So for many of us, it was our first full week back to work. Kinda sucked didn’t it? lol Don’t get me wrong, I love what I do but man it sure was nice having short weeks. And since we didn’t hit the lottery when it was like 500 million dollars it’s back to the ol’ grind for pretty much all of us. Though truthfully I can’t really complain because honestly, if I won, I’d still have to work. Oh sure the first few months I’d not work to take it all in, get my “new life” set up –  legal stuff. However after that I’d go back to being Simply Lori. I’d most definitely expand TKW. I’d open up a brick and mortar, offering classes and deliciousness. I don’t necessarily want a full-fledged restaurant. Lord know. I know how much work went into running a pizza shop. I want no part of a full-on restaurant. But my “day” job … honestly I think I’d miss it or at least that type of work. I’m such a nerd at heart, loving technology, code and compliance.

Hmmm… what about you? If you won, would your outlook on work change? What would you do?

So last week it was typical Pittsburgh weather – mid 40’s at the beginning of the week, mid 60’s on Thursday and -8 on Friday with 8″ of snow. Pittsburgh – the only city where you get all for seasons in 1 week. Heck, sometimes in one day even. Ah but I love this city. It’s absolutely beautiful and has such a home-town feel to it. You feel welcome here. I was ridiculously busy with TKW stuff though not so much on publishing posts. Sorry about that. I strive to post 4 -5 times a week but sadly I was only able to do 3. I had a ton of “office” work to get done so that took up almost all of my time. Then Mr. Fantabulous’ company issued out a new kit to Facebook only first and it was insane the number of orders they got. His company is the only one in the world that creates this kit for the 2016 Camaro and well as you can imagine, it was very, VERY well received. So with that I had to help out though today I’m stuck, after I get my work done, updating his website to add the new part and items. Ugh… If you know someone who builds out an e-commerce website, send them my way. His company is actually interviewing for a new web company/person to redesign his site.
I think we really need to move to 4-day work weeks.

Well we made it one week into the new year. Be honest, for those of you that had to go back to work this week, how was it? For me it was ROUGH to say the least. I had so much time off from Thanksgiving throughout Christmas that working even a short week last week was rough. I have no idea what I’m going to do this week when I have to work 5 whole days… IN A ROW! AND one of those days I actually have to put on real pants (and a bra!) as I have to go into the office. LOL But let me tell you folks that think working from home is a breeze; it’s not. Oh sure it has its perks – no commute, your own bathroom, no need to wear dress/work clothes, heck you don’t even have to brush your hair if you don’t want to.

But there are major drawbacks; at least I think so. It’s really hard to ‘log off’ as you’ve essentially brought your work home with you. I can’t tell you how many times at night Mr. Fantabulous has found me on my work computer working because I figured out a way to fix something or realized I forgot to do something. And you don’t really have the personal interaction with office folks. I miss going to lunch with my friends and just getting out of the house in general.

However if I had to choose one and only one for the rest of my career, it would be working from home. This whole wearing real clothes is rough. Give me pajama pants and my pig slippers any day over a suit and pumps!

Is your office dress code casual or professional?

Wow, New Year’s Eve… This year, while I had a blessed year, I had a tough year. I’m thankful that it’s over to be honest. Physically, emotionally and mentally this year was one of my toughest. With the loss of my sister, the car accident, the extensive shoulder surgery, the unbelievable number of house spent on remodeling this house I. AM. DONE! But I survived and it didn’t beat me. It tried with everything it had to break me but with the love and support from Mr. Fantabulous, family and friends I pushed through.

Onward and upward as they say. Let’s 2018 be full of love, happiness, adventure, good fortune, health and peace.

Goodbye 2017, it’s been real!

Santa’s coming, Santa’s coming, Santa’s coming!!! I don’t care what age I am, I still become that 4-year-old little girl at Christmas who giggles at the sight of Santa, leaves cookies and milk out for him and plans her evenings around what Christmas shows are on. I can remember when I was little it was a big deal when the Christmas shows were on. We’d have an early dinner, our home work would be done, baths were had and jammies were on. As soon as 8pm hit, we’d all gather around our console television and watch the classics.  Nowadays we have DVRs, blue-rays and “on demand” but there’s just something a bit more magical about watching it on ‘live’ tv with the rest of the world.

So how many of you are Christmas eve shoppers? Hey don’t fret it – I do it but not for presents. 99.9% of the time I’m that girl at the grocery store who ran out of milk, butter or something important needed for dinner. I actually went to Kohl’s yesterday and was surprised that it was pretty empty. I went in, grabbed what I needed and didn’t wait in line at all. Odd, I know!

This past week I was pretty much down for the count the first 4 days. I had a nasty, nasty head cold/sinus infection that was so bad I actually went to see my dentist as I thought I cracked a root. Thankfully the chompers are all ok and here the pain I was feeling was called “referred” pain thanks to the lovely sinus infection. But what’s odd is that I lost my voice for 2 days. Oh trust me, Mr. Fantabulous wasn’t complaining too much lol

Are you on the naughty or nice list?

Happy Sunday TKW Family!  Brrrr it’s finally cold here in Pittsburgh! We still haven’t had snow yet; just a few flurries. But did you see that Atlanta got something like 9″ the other day. North Carolina as well got hit with snow yet we, who live in the snow belt got squat. Oh trust me, I’m not complaining as folks around here honestly can’t drive in snow. I mean I can get it if you’re new to the area and never had to deal with driving in snow but when folks who’ve grown up here, know the type of snow that we get and still do not get snow tires, kills me. I’m a truck girl but even if you have 4-wheeled drive and your butt is driving with summer tires, my car with snow tires will handle better in the snow. But I digress – ATL and NC – love you guys but you can keep the snow!  Merry Christmas!  LOL

Last week…. God what a blur. When you work in IT, there really is no down time. While most companies slow down around the holidays, IT never sleeps or stops. Even though we’re going into a code freeze (which means no production changes can be pushed through for 4 weeks), this is my super, SUPER busy time. I have to map out my projects for the next year, define my strategies and define the road map. Oh yeah, all the while fitting in my end of the year vacation. But I can’t complain too much as I have a job and more importantly I have a job that I actually really love.

Thursday night was an eventful night in my house. With us both being engineers we can never do things easy. We have to analyze stuff (to death), bring out our calculators, engineering paper and honestly, if we had a whiteboard in the room, that would have been brought out too. You see we’re finally at the point where we can start decorating (and using) the media and billiard room. Which meant we needed to buy a tv. We bought the tv and it was to be delivered the next day. Us, being us, we had to calculate the optimal viewing angle and distance for a 75″ tv. It got bad – like 3 hours bad. We literally broke it down to writing out equations trying to find the tangent and tilt ratios of the tv. 3 hours…

What’s your favorite Christmas cookie?
