These Weekly Menu recipes allow you to get out of that same ol’ recipe rut and try some delicious and easy dishes! This week I highly recommend making the Ziti Peperonata with Hot Sausage, the World’s Most Awesomest Tenderest Pork Cutlets, and the Korean Gochujang Sticky Chicken Breasts (Instant Pot)!
WOW… it’s Sunday already! I swear it was just Wednesday, I blinked and BOOM…SUNDAY! I’m tired today; actually, I’ve been sluggish the past few days. I think it’s my body’s way of telling me to either slow down and or take a vacation. But I’ll rest soon enough once I have my upcoming surgery. For now, I’ll keep chugging away, getting my stuff done and prepped that way Mr. Fantabulous has his bagels, sauces and freezer meals made. Oh, sure he could make the stuff if push came to shove but honestly, I enjoy it. I find being in the kitchen peaceful – even when I have to do a bajillion dishes.
4th of July holiday
How was your holiday? Did you cookout or do anything fun? Ours was pretty nice. We went over to the lead singers’ parents house for a cookout. I ended up taking this iced lemon cake that crushes the Starbucks version (so I was told). I was going to do make chocolate cookies but it was (still is ) UBER humid here that they would have been a hot, melted mess. I figured the lemon would be light and bright. What was kinda funny/awkward is the fill-in keyboardist and rhythm guitarist stopped by and grab some food. He was in the middle of chatting when he took a bite of the cake I made. Mid-chew he completely stopped talking, looked at the lead singers’ Mom and said, “OMG this is incredible! This reminds me of that Starbucks cake only a million times better! Where did you get this? I need to buy some today!”
I smiled and Leslie (the lead singer’s Mom said, “Lori made it.” The guy looked at me and said, “Really? Did you make this? This is amazing! Where did you get the recipe?” I just chuckled and said, “I tasted the cake a few months ago, had a ton of lemons at home and made the recipe up yesterday for the first time. This is my 5th batch of the cake til I perfected it.” He said, “Wait, you created a recipe? Seriously?”
I just laughed and my husband said, “Didn’t I tell you who she is or what she does for a living?” The guy said, “Yeah she’s an engineer.” Mr. Fantabulous said, “Yes but she’s also a chef. She’s The Kitchen Whisperer dude.”
The look on that guy’s face was PRICELESS! He said, “Wait!!! YOU’RE The Kitchen Whisperer??? You’re THAT Lori??? You’re her?!” and then he looks at my husband and says… “OMG You’re Mr. Fantabulous?!” WTH??? Why didn’t you tell me? OMG Lori, I love you (sorry dude but your wife is AMAZING!). I make your recipes all the time.” lol I lost it. Then he proceeded to grab 4 more slices of the cake. So yes X, I’ll be posting the recipe soon.
New News
So two new tidbits. On Facebook, I hired an assistant, Becca. She’s my new right-hand girl that has been a lifesaver with helping me manage Facebook and help build up our TKW Foodie Group page as well. When she posts it’ll show that it’s coming from the The Kitchen Whisperer account but she always signs her posts as “XOXO Becca”. Definitely stop by and say hi to her. She’s awesome and posting some awesome stuff there!
Next – on July 17th I’ll be out of commission for a couple of months. From decades of being a computer and Software Engineer, I’ve developed pretty severe carpal tunnel in both hands as well as nasty arthritis in the thumb joint. So bad that about 6 months ago, when I was pulling a tray of cookies out the oven with my left hand, I felt/heard a HUGE POP, my hand bent backward and it went dead immediately. Cookies went everywhere and then the pain came. I ended up rupturing the tendon on the inside of the thumb (if you were to make an ‘L’ shape, it’s the tending in the inside of the ‘L’ AND I also severed the ligament there too. I’m stubborn and have put up with the pain for the past 6 months but I can’t take it anymore.
It’ll take 2 surgeries to repair it all. I’m not looking forward to it as the doctor said it’ll be painful and that I’ll hate him for about 3 months but it’s needed.
So what’s that mean for TKW and the website? Absolutely nothing! I have a TON of recipes and photos that will still be posted. It’ll still be business as usual though the first few days post op I may be quiet on social media.
