Ingredients
- 1 – 11/2 cups flour (this will depend on what type of apple you use. If you use a softer apple, like Macintosh, use more flour)
- 1/3–1/2 cup white sugar (this will depend on the sweetness of your apple)
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon apple pie spice
- 2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon fine salt (table salt)
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1/4 cup natural apple sauce
- 1/4–1/2 cup milk (again, this will depend on the amount of flour you have)
- 1 1/2 cups chopped (peeled and cored) apples (you want smaller pieces)
- Vegetable or canola oil for frying
Instructions
- Heat the oil to 350F.
- In a bowl mix together the flour, sugar, spices, baking powder and salt.
- In a separate bowl beat the egg, milk and applesauce.
- Add the wet ingredients into the dry and combine with a spoon.
- Fold in the apples and mix until it’s evenly distributed.
- Using a small cookie scoop (do NOT make these big as the outside will burn and the insides will remain raw) drop 1 tablespoon of apple batter to the oil.
- Fry on each side for 3-5 minutes or until a caramel golden brown.
- Remove with slotted spoon and place on a paper towel.
- While warm add your toppings.
