So now you know me, I’m all about making my own spice mixtures.  Call me cheap, call me frugal, call me whatever you want but while you’re out there spending $10 on a teensy bottle of stuff, I’m at home making jugs of this stuff for that much AND it’s a bajillion times better AND I know exactly what’s going in it.

In order for me to share the recipe for the Pulled BBQ Chicken Caramelized Onion Jarlsberg Pizza, you need to know the spice mixture for it first for the dry rub.  Sure I could sit here and calculate it down to just enough of this and that for the recipe however I highly doubt you want to measure out 1/32nd of a teaspoon of salt and 1/64th teaspoon of garlic.. Yeah… I didn’t think so:)

Plus, look at it this way.. once you make this spice mixture, you can have this on hand all the time AND these make AWESOME gifts for the holidays and just little “thinking of you” baskets.  I know I personally would LOVE LOVE LOVE a gift basket full of stuff like this *hint hint.. my birthday is in May folks*

I’ve been using this forever!  This is awesome on chicken, shrimp, lobster (on the grill is AMAZING!), vegetables and so forth!

This rub is amazing! We use it on the smoker all the time. Every year we do a hog roast and the whole pig gets covered in yellow mustard then this rub. It’s soooo delicious!

I’m having hard time looking for dry mustard. Is there a substitute for it? Or can I omit dry mustard?

      Hi Rosemarie!

Dry mustard is the same as mustard powder or ground mustard. It’s yellow and powdery. It’s a pretty standard spice but if you can’t find it you can omit it but when ever you use this recipe in a dish you’ll have to add regular yellow mustard in it’s place. Normally 1 tsp of mustard powder = 1 Tbl prepared mustard.

      Pat,

Just make a batch, use what you need for a recipe and save the rest in a mason jar. That’s what I do with all of my dry seasonings.
