Happy Sunday folks! It’s time for another weekly menu for you to hopefully take some of the pain out of planning for dinner. Lord knows we all work way too hard and sometimes figuring out what to make for dinner can be a pain in the butt. Sure it’s super easy to go through the drive-thru but seriously don’t do that. It’s gross, unhealthy and expensive. While you’re making dinner, take that time for yourself to unwind. Pour yourself a glass of something to drink, kick off your shoes, put on some comfy clothes and just let the kitchen help you relax. There is nothing to fear about being in the kitchen. It’s food, not rocket science. You got this!
So how was your week last week? Mine was 9 bajillion times better than the week prior! I’m home and recovering in my own bed, my own clothes (seriously hospital gowns are not the most comfortable things) and with my hubby 24/7. First let’s talk about hospital gowns. Now I get the whole premise that they made that way for a reason – as a drape that can be ripped off in a second by those snaps. That makes sense. but how is it that I can manage to have it on, only have a single snap on each on fastened, wearing it so the opening is in the back and not tied can still manage to pretty much strangle myself in it while sleeping??? I’m that kid that when little would sleep in nightgowns only to wake up in the middle of the night gasping for air as it, without fail, would end up with the thing pretty much wrapped around my neck though my arms were still in the arm holes.
As for my recovery I’m feeling a little better. I still have a fair bit of pain but it’s just a mere fraction of the pain I was in (thank God!). It still hurts to talk so for those of you that have called me and left messages, thank you. I love you too and will call you soon. Since I’m under quarantine I’m pretty much limited to what I can do. I’d love nothing more than to cease this opportunity and go create in the kitchen 16 hours a day but I’m still pretty weak but every day I’m getting stronger. So to occupy my time I’m researching on what exactly I need to do to one – find an agent so I can pitch a cookbook concept, two – write a cookbook proposal (I have no clue what all that encompasses) and three – actually create the rest of the recipes. I have an overall idea of the look/feel of it but it’s just getting started.
One of the things I struggle with are the actual recipes. I have thousands of recipes however it’s hard for me to figure out which ones should go in it, which ones remain coveted albeit family recipe or TKW Signature. It’s one of those ‘do I put a Signature recipe in the book? If I do that’s lost income from orders however that could be the selling point of the overall cookbook.’ See what I mean? I’m having a hard time drawing that line in the sand.
So for now I’ve been Googling and doing tons of reading. I’ve been fortunate in this blogging industry that I’ve met some really amazing people that are either accomplished chefs, have published cookbooks or have their own tv show. I’m not one to say ever say “Hey since we’re friends can you get me a deal too?” No that’s not me nor would I ever, EVER use a friendship for self gain. I’m better than that. However I think I may reach out to them for advice – advice on where to start, how to start and maybe a guide on what I need to do to get this done. The work I can put in but it’s that initial what do I do first or at the same time I’m unsure of.
Now onto more cutesy stuff… my husband! LOL As you all know Saturday mornings are my shopping mornings – Sam’s club, Home Goods, Grocery Store and Supply Store. Every Saturday like clockwork. Well since I’m stuck in house jail here and Warden Mr. Fantabulous won’t let me even go outside on my porch this resides all on him. He has no need to go to Home Goods even though I told him to just go there, take pictures and tell the folks I missed them (he thought I was weird when I said this… do you?) and he agreed to only go to Sam’s club. I made the list according to how I shop – item location upon store entry. This list had maybe 10 things on it and 90% of the were all located around the same vicinity. Like clockwork he calls me “Okay honey I’m in the store, there are 9 million people. Where do I go in this place?” It’s both funny and kinda scary as I navigated him through the store over the phone solely by memory. “Okay honey you should be passing the books and clothing now. Hang a right and head back towards the bakery. Flour is located in last shelved aisle. Grab that. Okay turn around and walk towards the meat. The pork, steak and beef will be against the wall on your left side, bananas up ahead and on your right…” I had him in and out of that store in 20 minutes going purely from memory. As he was checking out he chuckled “so come here often baby” on the phone with me. Yeah, yeah I guess I do.
So now on to more important things…Who’s hungry? Here’s to you having one amazingly delicious week!
