Happy Tuesday TKW Family!  For today’s Tuesday’s Tip with The Kitchen Whisperer I’m going to be sharing with you my Best Breadcrumb Substitutes.  Breadcrumbs are something that I make…when I remember however 9 times out of of 10 I never have them on hand.  I don’t really use them that often however some recipes need them.  So I had to become resourceful and went back to my childhood days of what Mom would use.  And I’m telling you what folks, unless I make my own breadcrumbs, I’ll never buy store bought again!

Tuesday-Tip

♦ We were a Corn Flakes family growing up – it was simple, honest and, next to Wheaties, my all time favorite cereal.  Mom took that cereal beyond the bowl and transformed it into cookies as well as a KILLER breading on chicken.  All you need to do is put some in a plastic bag and smash it up until it’s fine though not a powder.

♦ Next we have Panko.  I make my own by, are you ready for this?  Using Chex cereal!  It, hands down, makes the BEST crunchy breading on chicken.  EVER!

♦ Pretzels – yep, crush up pretzels and use them to coat fish or to add in a turkey burger.  That extra salt adds such a great flavor!

♦ Potato Chips – FYI… crushed up sour cream and onion chips with a butter drizzle is awesome with chicken fingers and honey mustard!

♦ Oats – grinding old fashioned oats is great for adding to meatloaf or coating foods.

♦ Cream of wheat – this is a secret trick to getting really moist meatloaf

Being a type 2 diabetic I’m always looking for low carb substitutes especially for bread crumbs. I grind up pork rinds. Works as well and no carbs.
