Spinning my way into a healthy lifestyle with Lorissa’s Kitchen

I’m a spin addict.  There I said it.  I LOVE spin class or cycling in general. It allows me to not think.  Sure it’s awesome for a healthy lifestyle and helping me get in shape but more importantly I honestly don’t have to think when I spin. I simply pedal and let my mind be free.  I just change my clothes, put on my spin shoes, put the hair up in a ponytail and ride.  I lose track of time.  Work, problems, issues – nothing exists.  It’s just me and the ‘open road’.  So when I first started working out and spinning often I’d find myself thinking “what am I going to eat after this workout?”  lol terrible I know but hey I’m a foodie and working out as hard as I do, you want food afterwords.  The key is that you should eat after you work out. Your body just went through a killer workout and you depleted fluids, electrolytes and glycogen (it’s the main way our body stores glucose for later). Plus you need food to help repair stressed and sore muscles.  Now it’s easy to hit up the drive thru *gag – yes I just made that yuck face* or order a smoothie. The thing is with those you’re not getting protein and more than likely you’re getting more sugar that your body needs which means that workout you just did – yeah, doesn’t count.  So for me I am huge into whey isolate protein powder but even that gets tiresome.  So when the amazing folks from Lorissa’s Kitchen came out with 3 AMAZING flavors Lorissa’s Kitchen Korean Barbeque Beef, Lorissa’s Kitchen Sweet Chili Pork and Lorissa’s Kitchen Szechuan Peppercorn Beef protein snack I had to check them out. FYI.. here’s a spoiler alert. YOU NEED to check them out!  OMG!  No seriously, I’m like addicted to this protein snack!

Finding these in your local Walmart is super easy!  Just enter in the market entrance and walk down towards the cashier’s. They are on the entrance to the aisles.  Definitely pick up at least one of each!  Initially I picked up a bag of each flavor as they all sounded scrumptious.  Plus to be honest I knew Mr. Fantabulous would love these as well!  What’s awesome about these is that they are small enough that you can keep them in your gym bag or purse.  I actually keep 3 bags in my gym bag, 2 flavors in my desk drawer when those 2pm post-lunch/pre-dinner cravings hit and a bunch at the house.

What you’ll first notice about these protein snacks is that they are tender and chewy.  I absolutely love this fact!  I so don’t want to have to work out my jaw gnawing on something – I want to enjoy my food and relax while my body cools off. Next I need to dish about these from a nutritional standpoint.  No I’m not a nutritionist BUT I also have a high understanding of what’s good protein, what’s healthy and what I SHOULD be eating. Just look at the label below:

A serving size is 1 ounce. Trust me, you get a lot in one serving.  This stuff is light so for those of you that are foodies, trust me, this is plenty!  Next calories.. HELLO!!!  80 calories!  My protein shakes aren’t that low in calories!  Protein – 11 grams per serving is a great especially since this an animal protein!  Next no added MSG, no added nitrates, gluten free, no growth hormones and so forth.  They created these with love.  Kind of like if you made this yourself for your family.  You taste the love and care in each bite!

Also, the bags they come in are resealable which is great especially when you store them in your gym bag.  You don’t have to worry about your towel smelling like food or finding rogue food in your spin shoes (this has happened to me numerous times).  And the worst is finding that your protein powder container leaked and your spin pant are powder coated.  Nope, doesn’t happen with these!  Plus no refrigeration required!

So let’s talk about how I incorporate Lorissa’s Kitchen protein snacks in my workout regime:

♥ Gym bag essentials – towel, protein shaker bottle, water bottle, spin shoes, hair scrungie, spin clothes, gum (must have gum!), music if riding solo and Lorissa’s Kitchen protein snacks
♥ 30 minute Spin workout (now traditionally I time this with a playlist)

♥ Drink plenty of fluids while working out and after working out! HYDRATE, HYDRATE, HYDRATE!
♥ Post workout eat your protein snack and a light/healthy carb.  This will help your body refuel and replenish.  You’ll start to build muscle and lose fat.

♥
Repeat workout 3-5 times a week while living a healthy lifestyle!
♥ Buy extra Lorissa’s Kitchen protein snacks because you’re going to love them!
