Happy New Year and Happy Sunday TKW Family! So should I whisper type this to you in case you were out way too late last night and had 7 too many drinks? *wink* Oh trust me I’ve been there… in my twenties but now that I’m *covers her mouth and mouths her age* years old I’m past that “scene” if you will. Last night we had such a great New Year’s Eve with 2 of our closest friends. I’ve known Leslie since kindergarten and her husband Paul we’ve known now for what, 6-7 years I think? Two kind-hearted and down to earth people who just are a blast to hang out with. We went to their house for some snacks, pizza and some New Year’s Eve Pretzel (see below). So what did we do besides laugh til I thought I was going to pee my pants – played board games. Yep just simple board games – Trouble, Yahtzee (which Mr. Fantabulous LOOOOOOOOOOOVES though I swear the only reason he loves it is that he can shake that damn dice shaker for like 15 minutes straight) and I think something else though it escapes my mind.
I lost every game though honestly laughing as much as we did, it was worth it.
At midnight and the kisses and hugs were given we sliced into my New Year’s Eve Pretzel. Now this, I think, is a Pittsburgh tradition as I’ve only ever really heard of it here. It’s kind of like how Pork & Sauerkraut is a PA Dutch tradition for New Years, the pretzel is the same thing. They are supposed to bring you good luck. To make sure we all got a lot of good luck, we ate almost the whole thing! LOL It’s pretty straight forward to make – just a basic sweet dough with a light glaze and sprinkles. Now I’ve seen them with cherries in/on them as well as raisins but you all know this child is not gonna put those demon seeds in something if I’m going to eat it. And as for the raisins, I prefer it plain – we all do.
I also decided to whip up some not-so mini babkas. I had every intention of making them mini but as you can see they were anything but. These are perfect to share and awesome with tea!
This past week went by really fast. I worked from home 3 days since 2 days were holidays for us. Starting this week I’ll start working from home permanently 2 days a week. My commute is horrific (about 3-4 hours a day) and since my company ROCKS along with my boss, they are allowing me this arrangement. SO stoked about this!
So have you made your resolutions yet? Yeah for me I don’t believe in resolutions but rather lifestyle changes. This past year I “lost my way” if you will with my lifestyle change. I did put 25 pounds on (I know, right!) – I had to stop working out due to multiple shoulder surgeries and then when I was done, I got the new job, the horrific commute and any free time I did had was spent helping Mr. Fantabulous on the house. I know, excuses. I own it however I’m back to ‘me” and know what I need to do, what I need to change and keep it that way. We all have obstacles in our life and things that unfortunately have to take priority but now that I’m quasi-back to normal (yeah I still need another shoulder surgery but I’m really holding off on that until well, my arm falls off.. LOL) I can adjust my life to including the gym again. What will seriously help me out is the working from home part.
Today Leslie and Paul are coming over for dinner. I have my Pork & Sauerkraut in the oven (it went VIRAL the past 2 days and still is!), au gratin potatoes, pasta bake (it’s kinda like lasagna but it’s not a refined) and roasted broccolini. For dessert we can have the babkas or simple ice cream. Thankfully with them I don’t have to get dressed up honestly put on real pants. Yep this girl will be in her fleece jammie bottoms. Love me, love my jammies. LOL
And with that, I need to get my butt back in the kitchen to tend to the food and I’m thinking I should at least shower, right? *wink* Have one fantabulous day and amazing week!
