Never run out of Confectioners’ Sugar again with this easy kitchen tip!

Do you call it Confectioners’ Sugar or Powdered Sugar? Maybe you call it Icing sugar where you live.  I think it’s regional to be honest as they are all the same thing. I’ve even seen it written as “10x sugar” which stands for the fineness of the grind (or how many times it’s been processed). What I find sad/comical is that it’s so much more expensive than regular sugar. I mean why even buy it in the first place when you can make it yourself at home.

Yes really, you can make it at home yourself. All you need are 2 simple things.

All you need is simple plain white sugar and either a food processor or a blender. Yep, just those 2 things. Well okay you can add cornstarch as well. This simply prevents it from clumping. To a food processor add 1 cup of regular white sugar and 1 teaspoon of cornstarch (optional). Use the ‘pulse’ or ‘blend’ setting and process until a powder is created. Once you have a powdery substance, before using, dump it through a mesh strainer just to remove any lumps. At this point use immediately or store in an air tight container.

*note – one thing I should mention that if you have a plastic container (blender/processor) that this may scratch the inside. I’ve never experienced this as my bowls are all glass but this is something you may want to be aware of if your items are plastic.

I remember reading once that doing this in your food processor will scratch the inside of the plastic bowl. Have you noticed this when you process the sugar?

Good point Gee Gee. Mine are glass but that makes sense. I’ll actually add a note to the post about that.

      Thanks!
