Get out of that same ol’ recipe rut and try one of these delicious and easy recipes this week! This week I highly recommend making the Creamy Ham, Potato and Corn Chowder, Sheet Pan Smoked Kielbasa with Herbed Potatoes and Green Beans and the Best Ever Chocolate Lofthouse Cookies!
Happy Sunday TKW Family! Today is one of those days where I’m all bundled up in my comfy yoga pants, long-sleeved t-shirt, fuzzy socks and I have my hands wrapped around a fresh cup of hot cocoa. Winter is HERE! Not sure what happened to fall but when my outside security cameras went off at 2am because snow was falling, it’s officially winter. Fortunately it was just flurries but ugh…winter. Oh don’t get me wrong. I LOVE the snow and being all bundled up, pots of soup on the stove top and Hallmark Christmas movies but I hate being cold. It must be an age thing but anymore I cannot tolerate the cold, frigid air temps.
I will never forget the one morning when I was still working in town and I was outside waiting for the Pittsburgh T-rail to come in. It was, without wind chill factored in, -17F! Yes, NEGATIVE FRIGGEN 17 degrees without the wind chill. That broke me. I used to LOVE the cold as it didn’t seem to bother me. Granted I was way heavier at the time so perhaps more body mass factored into that but that morning, yeah that morning broke me. I could not bundle up any more – it was to the point I looked like Randy, Ralphie’s little brother in A Christmas Story when the Mom bundled him up in that snow suit.
Pasta Making Class in the ‘Burgh!
Last week was a busy week for us. Lidia’s in Pittsburgh had myself, Mr. Fantabulous, and a few other Pittsburgh food influencers down to preview their Halloween Pasta Making class with Chef Daniel Walker. Marrying into an Italian family one has to know how to make pasta. Even though I’m an experienced pasta maker I still learned quite a bit; more technique if you will. Many there hadn’t made it before and by the end of the class they were pasta making masters! The class was very carefree and light but truly informative! Mr. Fantabulous had a blast and on the way home asked when the next event was! And he asked when we could make pasta together! WOO HOO! This event was so much fun and something I HIGHLY recommend folks local to Pittsburgh taking!
It’s a great date night thing to do. Perfect to do with your besties and one that every foodie should take! Plus you get an awesome 3-course meal afterwards! The class is scheduled for October 25th at 6pm Executive Chef Daniel Walker is leading an interactive pasta making course. This class is $85 per person and includes the pasta class, 3 course meal and glass of wine. The best part? You’re going to be eating the pastas that you’ve created. Visit https://www.opentable.com/r/lidias-pittsburgh or call them at 412 552 0150 and tell them that I recommended it! Trust me, it’s so much fun!
Photography Workshop
I then attended a 2-day Photography workshop with my bff. Industry leaders and photography experts hosted workshops ranging from lighting to macro shooting, portraits to equipment. We got to meet and chat with some of the most brilliant photographers in the world. We got to test out new lenses and equipment and yes – my wish list grew by like $10k easily! LOL But it was cool as these experts just sat and talked with us. You know me guys – I asked a million questions and they just walked me through specifics. It honestly was super helpful and I’m hoping to take some of the lessons learned and apply them to future shoots. Granted photography is all about practice, practice and more practice. I’ve also decided that I wanted to take some continuing education classes focusing on photography. That’s one thing the local community colleges are awesome for! Great classes at affordable prices!
A few of the photography instructors also host several photo tours where you travel the world to some location with them and a small group of other avid photographers. There you get hands on training and personalized help. My bff and I are eyeing up the trip to Iceland in September. I’ve always wanted to go there and right now, it’s the “in” place to vacation to!
Last week on Instagram
Last week I was crazy busy in the kitchen either making client recipes, testing out blog recipes or was feeding us. I often get asked “what equipment do you use?”. My primary camera is my Canon Mark IV D with my side camera being the Canon EOS 7D. I’ll do a post on the equipment and gear I use in the future. But I wanted you to see what I typically see what I shoot. I tend to not see the final photo but I spend 99% of my time behind the camera. That’s my eye.
Then I got to working on a new client recipe that truly was Chocolate Heaven! I’m editing the photos today and hope to have the recipe on the blog this week!
So OMG! You HAVE to see my post with the food my bff and I ordered while we were at the workshop! This pretzel was GINORMOUS!!! It could have easily been our meal!
But.. we didn’t stop there! LOOK at the size of this friggen fish! It was not only Nemo but his dad and his pappy! Plus there are like a bajillion pounds of fries and slaw!
For real, go to Industry Public House HUNGRY and with 47 people! And with that guys, I’m off to grab lunch and start editing photos. Mr. Fantabulous is in bed sick with a cold (TYVM for helping him sleep Nyquil!) so I’m using this quiet time to work.
