Kick off your meal with the most amazing, herbaceous dipping oil for your warm crusty bread!

Am I the only one that could literally have a meal of warm crusty bread and dipping oil or do I have family out there that does this too?

Remember those Crusty French  Baguettes I told you about the other day? Wanna see something yummy I did with them? *grin* Yeah, I so went there.

I think dipping bread in oil like this is more of an Italian thing as I’ve only ever seen it at Italian restaurants.  I can still remember the first time I had it. This is so simple to make and it’s one of those you will be making ALL THE TIME!  I make a big bottle and store it in the fridge.  When I’m ready to use it, I take it out a few hours prior (as the oil has to come to room temp) and shake away then DIP DIP DIP!

This is so truly yummy and went perfectly with the bread!

There is this amazing (little) Italian restaurant that is around where I grew up.  There is always, ALWAYS a wait for a table but it’s well worth it.  When they relocated to their slightly bigger, fancier place they started serving this. I think the first time I had it I ate nothing but bread and their dipping oil and took my entire meal, untouched, home!

This dish can turn even canned pasta (blech) into something gourmet!  Just those little touches can make the meal!

 Hungry yet?

Ingredients

  • 3/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 1 teaspoon fresh ground black pepper
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon oregano
  • 1 teaspoon basil
  • 1/2 teaspoon rosemary
  • 1 1/4 teaspoon granulated garlic
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoon fresh minced garlic
  • 1 1/2 cups really, REALLY good olive oil
  • Fresh grated parmesan cheese
  • Dipping Oil Bottles

Instructions

  1. If making it in a Dipping Oil Bottle , place the red pepper flakes, black pepper, oregano, basil, rosemary, garlic powder and salt in the bottle.
  2. Close the bottle and shake well to combine.
  3. Add in the minced garlic and olive oil (make sure you have at least a 1 1/2” space at the top of the bottom to allow for evening mixing.
  4. When ready to serve, shake and pour onto a plate adding 1-2 extra tablespoon of oil if necessary.
  5. Garnish with some fresh grated cheese.
  6. Store the bottle in the fridge.
  7. To serve, allow to come to room temperature and shake.
  8. If making a single serving, mix all of the spices together.
  9. Place 1-2 teaspoon of the herbed mixture onto the plate.
  10. Add 1/4 teaspoon of minced fresh garlic to it.
  11. Drizzle 3-4 tablespoon of oil on top.
  12. Garnish with grated parmesan cheese.

Notes

Now if you wanted, you could drizzle a thin stream of good quality Balsamic Vinegar to the plate of oil to not only add color but add an additional depth of flavor.

      Hi Joan!

If you make focaccia, you can add that on top of the dough, press it in and bake. It adds such a wonderful flavoring to the bread.
