I love football. No wait, let me expand on that. I LOVE STEELERS football! I mean we’re all faithful to our home team but growing up in Pittsburgh there is just something special about the Steelers and the pride we have. For us it’s a way of life. We’re a hardworkin’ town that is a veritable melting pot. We have Little Italy, Polish Hill, German breweries and so forth. A city that spawned its own dialect, its own way of doing things, definitely our own foods and of course our sports teams.
Now if you’re not a football fan here in Pittsburgh (um.. move, k? LOL just kidding.. really), I’ll give you this bit of advice. The BEST time to go shopping is when a game is on. The stores are EMPTY. I actually have friends that plan their grocery shopping around when the game is on as they get pretty much the entire store to themselves.
But if you’re like me, you’re glued to the TV to root on your favorite team (GO STEELERS! – Hey, my blog so I can root for whom I want) LOL And if you’re really like me you’re so past the typical chips, nachos and buffalo chicken dip. You need more!
It’s funny when we used to have folks at our house for every game the food spread I put out was ridiculous! Like it rivaled Thanksgiving! But with the 6-year-long-remodel job we can’t really entertain. Soon though, very soon. Now when you watch sports are you superstitious? Like do you have assigned seats? Wear a specific set of socks? If you get up to leave the room and your team scores are you banned from coming back into the room?
No? Dude, you’d never survive with me then. I have my rituals, assigned seats, what shirt/socks I wear and so forth. I have props – we throw flags, wave our Terrible Towels in the air, blow the whistle and yell at the TV.
What I’m so excited about is with the remodel we’re doing in the media room we’re putting in a kitchenette and bar that way I can cook while watching the game on the big screen. BONUS! So paint your face, grab your gear and chow down on these 12 Touchdown Football Foods!
