Another week has passed and this week will be a short week for me. How about you? Last week was a bear weather-wise. It was BUTT cold here and if it’s any indication to what Pittsburgh’s winter is going to be, I’m moving tomorrow. Though how about that horrific snowstorm Buffalo got?! My God people, move! LOL No way in hell could I deal with FEET OF SNOW! Here in the ‘burgh we didn’t get any snow but some bitter cold temps and crazy winds. It was utterly pointless to do your hair if you were planning on going outside. This was one time that I didn’t care what my hair looked like when I walked into work. Thankfully this girl is prepared with a curling iron in my office.
This week was pretty good though. I was super crazy busy at work (which I actually love), I got to attend a pretty cool ITIL workshop that so let me geek out and shine in front of my boss. It’s always good when you can make that impression of “man I’m so glad I hired you!” with them. We joined this new gym that I honestly think Mr. Fantabulous tried to kill me at with our new workouts.
See we both belong to other gyms and we have a fully gym at home. However Mr. Fantabulous can’t come to my gym (as it’s at work) and I won’t go to his for MANY reasons that I can’t go into. So for several months we were unable to workout together. For me I love working out with him. He trains me hard and pushes me; I think more so since I am his wife. So we decided to join this other gym so he could train me (and I could perv on his sexy body while he’s all pumped up). Seriously, this man is just hot with a capital HOT!
Now I still worked out my normal routine – running for 8 miles and then spin for 15-18 earlier in the day. He and I would then meet up before dinner and do weights. This was great until Wednesday morning… the day after leg day. Now for me I normally don’t hurt in that area that I worked on until 2 days later. HOWEVER when I got up Wednesday morning and “tried” to sit down on the toilet I actually yelped out loud. My quads were on FIRE.
I actually sat there for a minute panicked because if they hurt that bad now in God’s name was I going to function let alone run or spin??? So when I got to work I was walking rather gingerly which most noticed. I ended up skipping running that morning and decided to spin after work but before we worked out on. It was back day so I would be fine… or so I thought. Like a fool I thought “Well if I spin and go slow then I can work out those sore muscles, get the blood flowing into them and I’ll be ok.” Folks I’m an idiot and this is the reason why I’m not a fitness instructor. One… you cannot go slow or easy in spin class. At least I can’t. I’m hardcore (and apparently an idiot). I got off and sure my quads were sore but a good sore. They felt warm and not too bad. So we proceeded on with our workouts. After my shower I went to walk and down I went.
My legs just gave out from fatigue. Me being me, just kinda half laid – half sat there belly laughing. Not so much because it was funny but rather it just hurt. But I’m a trooper, I got up, made us dinner and took some ibuprofen. Folks for 4 days my legs hurt and since Wednesday I have not run or spun. When I asked why they hurt as bad as they did he said “Oh we actually did more exercises than normally and we really did 2 days worth of stuff. We should have only did quads instead we did quads and hamstrings. Yeah I’m thinking we won’t do that again.” If I could have kicked him I would have.
So speaking of the gym I mentioned this to Mr. Fantabulous and he gave me some insight on Gym 101. See this gym is a pretty large national gym. You have your folks that go there to work out and then those that go there as they think it’s a single’s bar. I was in the locker room changing and there about 4 twenty-something year old women at the mirrors curling their hair, putting on makeup, spritzing perfume. I glanced up, saw this and thought “Lucky!” as I thought they were done with their workouts. WRONG! They were getting dolled up to go workout. When I realized this the look on my face was like “Are you friggen kidding me? Really?” as they left the expression on my face of disbelief was pretty apparently. I happened to meet eyes with one other lady in there and all she said as she shook her head was “I guess they are here for that new workout. The Mrs. routine. Find a man and marry him.” I just shook my head and chuckled. So as I mentioned this to my husband he said “Oh honey that’s normal in gyms. It’s a huge pick up spot.” Now one thing I do, do is people watch. People fascinate me in general. However when I’m at the gym I’m so in my own world that I will watch others on technique and so forth but it’s like I don’t “see them” for their physical appearance. *shrugs* But this time I watched for the signs… those typical signs you see in a bar.
OMG my eyes were opened up to a whole new world. It was like watching bad reality tv; you know, like the Kardashian show. *still don’t understand that show or why they are as famous as they are* but that’s just me. I wanted to look away but I couldn’t. I felt like I should have pulled up a chair, some popcorn and just sat back and watched the show. Girls reapplying lipstick on the stepper. Girls strutting back and forth through the free weights area incessantly until someone, anyone noticed her. My favorite are those that go up to a guy and reach out to touch his quasi bicep muscle and make him think he’s as big as Arnold. Just too much I tell ya!
Anyway, so Thanksgiving is this week already. Man this year is just flying by! Our radio stations here have started playing Christmas music 24/7. I love it as much as the next person but just how many times can I hear “All I want for Christmas” from Mariah Carey a day people? For me it’ll be a short week. Of course I’ll be cooking for the two of us. I wish our house was done as I miss hosting the big dinners but with my having construction crap everywhere it’s just too much. So no I’ll make dinner for two (which means that there really will be enough for like 6).
