Happy Sunday TKW Family! Man I tell you what, last week pretty much kicked my butt! It was literally non-stop from 5am til midnight. I was away again for work however I did manage to be able to get together with some girlfriends and TKW Family members for dinner a couple of times which is awesome. And I’ve now become one of those travelers to where as soon as I walk into the car rental place or my hotel I’m immediately greeted with a “Hey Lori, back again?” Actually when I went to pick up my rental car the manager said “Hey Lor you dyed your hair! It looks awesome!” It’s awesome customer service when they notice the little things however my traveling should die down for a few weeks. Actually it has to as Mr. Fantabulous is scheduled for shoulder surgery this upcoming Friday.
He was supposed to have it a few weeks ago but the surgery center ended up having to have us reschedule to another location. Now to know my husband he’s swearing up and down that he’ll be fine post-op; that it’ll be “no big deal as I’m not a wuss like you Lori cause I have a higher pain threshold.” Yeah… we’ll see there buckaroo. He’s even gone so far to tell me that 2 weeks post-op he’ll be out there weed whacking our 5 acres using his commercial weed whacker. Really now baby? Hmmm… I’m 3 months post op and cut the grass on our riding tractor today for 2 hours and was in tears afterwards as it killed my shoulder. You go on with your bad Superman self then.
Anyone wanna place a bet that 2 weeks post op I’ll still be pampering that man and there will be no weed whacking?
So last week I had every intention of sharing 4 new recipes however honestly time just slipped away from me. For the first time in forever I literally would just crash when I would get back to the hotel. The one night I started to fall asleep on the phone while talking with Mr. Fantabulous. Sad huh?
But I need to share with you about some of the great foods that I found while I was away. In Central Pennsylvania they have common, hometown type dishes. Just like us here in Pittsburgh have our fries-on-everything salads and sandwiches, they have theirs. They make these huge soft pretzels that are caked with cheesy crab dip and then baked. You’re then given this spicy dipping sauce (that part I didn’t like as it was nothing but mayo and buffalo sauce which I gagged when I tried it – I would have gone with a chipotle remoulade myself). This dish was OUTSTANDING and one that I plan on making here! Another thing which was a first are their Pizza Steaks. Now I can remember centuries ago our family pizza shop offering something kinda like this but not quite. Where I was theirs comes with chopped grilled steak, caramelized onions, grilled pepperoni, pizza sauce and mozzarella cheese. The bun is uber soft and the cheese is melty. You can try to pick it up and eat it like a hoagie but due to the bread being so soft it’s best just to use a fork and knife. Again, another one that I will definitely be making here!
The one night we ended up going to a dueling pianos Irish Pub which was so much fun. Of course WE were the table right next to the piano players and yours truly was singled out almost the entire night! But the guys were hysterical and bought me drinks which is always a plus. LOL The only thing missing was Mr. Fantabulous. I keep telling him next time I have to go away for a week he needs to come up for a few days just to see the area and meet my co-workers. He’d love them as well and the places I’ve been too thus far are just a total blast!
Here’s to you having one fantabulous week!
Best Kitchen Wishes!
