Get out of that same ol’ recipe rut and try one of these delicious and easy recipes this week! This week I highly recommend making the Pittsburgh Style Grilled Cheese Steak n’at and Insane Sour Cream Chocolate Cake!
Oh Sunday you have no idea how happy I am to see you. Last week was mentally exhausting. If you recall last week I had to fly out pseudo last minute to San Diego/Carlsbad for work. Now the first leg of the flight to Dallas was great – no one in the middle seat which meant I could sprawl a little. But then when we picked up other passengers in Dallas…yeah, rough… AND LOUD. 40 pre-teen cheerleaders on board with accompanying parent. It wasn’t so much the kids that were loud though I now think I can cheer for them since I know all of the cheers *groan* but it was the parents complaining about the competition (because they lost). Anyway I fly into San Diego to the start what apparently was the worst rains they’ve had in over 100 years. Lovely…just like Pittsburgh!
And OMG it was cold! Like WTH? Where was the sun? Oh I know…it finally showed up…on the day I was leaving! LOL Work itself was demanding and mentally taxing but hey I love my job. What was awesome is that I got to put a face to so many voices. People I speak with almost daily I got to see and hang out with at work. Now I didn’t do too much exploration around town as one, the weather was seriously crappy and two, I was just beat. By 8pm I was yawning like it was my job and crashed by 9. I still had to keep East Coast hours as I had early morning meetings that I couldn’t miss.
The one night Mr. Fantabulous Facetimed me around 10pm his time because he wanted one of my milkshakes. So yes I literally spent about 30 minutes on the phone facetiming him to walk him through making a milkshake. And do you know what he said after he was done? He goes “Oh wow honey, this may be better than the ones you make me!” Um what??? Who just made that? You just followed my instructions!
While I was out there I did find a few pretty decent places to eat. I was on a huge hunt to find Mr. Fantabulous some specialty local wheat beers but almost everything is an IPA and that man loathes IPAs. Some other things I found “different” there than back here is all the stores charge 10 cents for a bag – even in say a gas station. Apparently it’s a state law. Makes sense though – go green! Now somethings I didn’t like… your parking lots/spaces are RIDICULOUSLY SMALL!!! WTH? It’s not big enough to fit a Smart Car let alone a normal sized car. And the other thing what’s with motorcycles riding between the cars/lanes? Is that a legal thing? I ask because some dude on a motorcycle pulled up between me and the car in the lane next to me. He scared the absolute bejesus out of me!
As for the food, there are a few places I’d definitely go back for:
This pizza from Pizza Port was pretty good. I’d say the ONLY thing I’d change was have my crust cooked a little bit longer. It was a tad too ‘doughy’ for me.
And while I was out there you guys said I HAD to try an In-an-Out burger. Um… so disclaimer, I HATE fast food places. However this is one of those places that I could see us going to after a long night out at the bar.
Now lemme tell you sumptin… If you’ve never had anything made in duck fat, well you’ve never truly lived! These… I just want an entire platter of these!
Friday morning it was time to come out. I had a super productive week at work and it was definitely necessary for me to be there. It’s funny as so many kept saying “Next time you must come for 2 weeks!” Um, no… I need to finish my house first and then take a vacation. The flight home was loooooooooooooooooooong! We flew 4.5 hours from San Diego to Orlando. That wasn’t bad and we also didn’t have a full flight. HOWEVER, when we connected flights in Orlando, we were told we would not have a full flight either – like 30+ empty seats. GREAT! I can relax. WRONG!
The cutest little couple decided that “Oh look Irv, she has such a beautiful smile. We can chat with her…THE WHOLE FLIGHT HOME!” Seriously… 9 bajillion other empty rows and they have to sit next to me. And while I love most people she would not stop talking THE ENTIRE FLIGHT! And then… OMG so I’m going to put this out there. Who actually farts on an airplane? Okay fine sure, you cough and it sneaks out. It happens but to do it THE ENTIRE FLIGHT??? Seriously? All I kept saying as I held my nose was “dear God please let them poop their pants on their next fart!” LOL
Finally we landed and I was off to see my baby. Talk about cold! Brrrr! Mr. Fantabulous picked me up and said let’s go grab a bite to eat. Since it was late we hit up Eat ‘n Park. He got his normal breakfast with pancakes/sausage/eggs/bacon and I got a hot roast beef sandwich with mashed potatoes. I got maybe half of mine done and I looked up and he was staring at my plate asking if it was “good”. Yeah… he was still hungry. I just pushed my plate over to him to finish. Sure I was still hungry but by that time I was just exhausted. Flying so long like that really took it out of me.
I’ll tell you what folks, I’ve always wanted to tour Europe but I don’t think I could honestly fly coach. No I can’t afford business/first class but I could NEVER sit in those normal seats for that long. My butt and tailbone were killing me. I need to lie down.
Saturday was pretty much a wash for me. I was utterly useless around the house. The jetlag had hit me hard. I was so tired I couldn’t even sleep. However I did manage to make him a dessert – just a simple Butterscotch Pudding Cream Pie with Toffee Crunch.
Today I want to get some stuff done around the house before he heads off to band practice. Can I just tell you guys how HAPPY I am they are practicing again??? LOL
