This is a new spin on a classic broccoli slaw. Crispy and packed with veggies, seeds, cranberries, and bacon topped with my Grandma’s amazing old fashioned boiled dressing. Every cookout needs this dish!

I debated on what to call this dish. It is Broccoli Slaw? Is it Broccoli Salad?  I struggled with it as it has well both broccoli florets and broccoli slaw. So I went with a Slaw Salad. Sure I could have shortened it to Broccoli Slawlad but then again that just like I fat fingered it really, really bad. Trust me, spell-check is screaming at me right now with that word.

This dish I literally had 2 women in their 60’s get into a fist fight over. Well okay technically only one punch was thrown but seriously for me, it was a HUGE compliment. To have people go to the level that they actually fight over your dish… I know I did something good. You can read that story here.

So this dish is very, VERY forgiving with regards to what you add to it. Don’t like cranberries?  Go with raisins or dried blueberries. Want to add cauliflower – go for it. Side note.. jicama in this is incredible!  And yes you can add more bacon and cheddar cheese to keep it like the classic dish.

But please… no mayo *gag*. Go with my Grandma’s dressing on this one.

This dish is one of the best cookout, bbq, summer dishes. It’s light and filling and so delicious. And here’s a tidbit:

If you cook up shrimp or chicken, you can totally add this to the dish and make it a full meal!

To make this you can most certainly go with fresh broccoli and make the slaw yourself but I’m being real here, ain’t nobody got time for that. Have you ever tried to make slaw from broccoli stems? It’s a pain in the butt people. Now if you have a ninja kitchen secret on how to easily do this please share!

So yes I buy pre-made broccoli slaw. It’s cheap and saves me the hassle (and from muttering a bajillion curse words while trying to cut the stems down). But one thing you cannot, must not do is buy dressing. Make your own; make my Grandma’s dressing for this dish. And when you do, please post pics of it on facebook and instagram tagging (@thekitchenwhisperer) so I can see your deliciousness!
