Happy Sunday TKW Family! How are things? Things here are well, wet but well. Summer is officially over here in Pittsburgh and now comes the rain-for-days weather. It’s been raining here pretty much non-stop for the past 2 days. And I’m not talking that little piddly raining (queue scene from Forrest Gump where he talks about ‘Little bitty stingin’ rain, and big ol’ fat rain...’) but that steady hard rain where you *think* you can run to your car and not get that wet but then realize halfway to your car that you’ve pretty much entered a wet t-shirt contest as you’re soaked to the bone rain. And with this rain came the cold/Fall weather. Just 2 days ago it was high 90’s with 85% humidity and today it’s 50F and hoodie weather.
I love Fall though (not the rain part) but the break in the heat and humidity. Fall, for me, is about comfort foods, hoodies and that extra blanket. As a child Fall was my most favorite season. Growing up we had this old, beautiful Maple tree in the front yard that had a little hill. As soon as the weather would break Mom and I would sit in the kitchen and stare at the tree while making plans for when the leaves fell. You see Mom was not a big outdoorsy person. Oh sure she’d work in the garden and her flower beds but Mom didn’t cut the grass or spend too much time in nature if she couldn’t help it.
But once the leaves fell, she became a little kid again.
As soon as enough leaves fell, without a word Mom would just give me a look and a grin that I knew what was going to happen. We’d both go and change into warmer clothes but stuff we didn’t care about getting dirty. We’d run out under the tree, scoop up all the leaves we could into a huge pile and then, at the top of the hill we’d lie down and roll until we’d crash into the leaves. I can still hear her laugh and giggles as she was rolling down the hill and that ‘crashhhhhhhh!‘ into the leaves. We would do that for hours getting leaves and small branches in our hair, our clothes and even get a few battle cuts from the sticks but neither of us cared as, while I was a kid, Mom was being a kid all over again.
My siblings never got a chance to partake in that and honestly I’m happy they didn’t. In hindsight I didn’t have much time with Mom, just 18 short years. While I would give anything to have her (and Dad) I find that I cherish those special times when it was just us even more so. What I can remember probably most vividly is the last time we decided to roll down we would lie head-to-head holding hands and roll down together at the same time. We’d get up, start plucking leaves from our hair, our shirts (and yes, even the back of our pants) laughing the whole time. it was like the whole world stopped and nothing else or anyone else existed. As we’d turned around and start heading over to the house it was only then did we realize we had an audience. Daddy would sit on the porch with his red and black flannel (god he loved that thing!) and his cup of coffee just grinning from ear to ear! His cherub cheeks bright right from laughing.
Once we were brushed off, we’d head into the house, change and Mom would make us all hot cocoa (with extra chocolate for me). Fall I guess is just a more relaxed season; at least that’s how it is in Pittsburgh.

So I HAD every intention of taking proper photos of this cake and posting the recipe this week but SOMEONE in this house ate almost the entire cake himself! So I’m making another one this week just so I can take photos and share the recipe before he devours that one too! But I will tell you this – this cake will be the most popular flavor profile this fall!
So as you all know Mr. Fantabulous LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVES crepes. I’m eh.. with them. They are ok but not something I’d go out of my way for. I had some extra batter leftover and decided to whip up a ‘Crepadilla!’ It’s a cross between a crepe and a quesadilla and OMG it was AMAZING!
Also coming up this week-ish is the recipe for this Italian Roasted Veggie Couscous! It’s so easy and delicious and definitely needs to be incorporated into your weekly meal prep!
Cutest Amazon Find EVER!
So I love Madeleines and with it being Fall they are the perfect cookie to go with tea! Well LOOK what I found!!! a MINI Madeleine pan!!!
