Welcome to the first weekly menu of 2015! So those of you that are over 40 admit it, aren’t you just a little bit disappointed that we all don’t have flying cars, hover boards or kitchens like the Jetsons? Yeah okay I’m sure they exist for the uber wealthy but us common folk, please they are things that we only can dream about or see in the movies. But I don’t know it would be cool to have a robot Rosie (like the Jetsons) or to be able to press a button for 3-course meal and have it done in 30 seconds.  That is, until I tasted it and realized that I could still do so much better.

Could technology replace the real thing?  Meaning could a robot or computer prepare our food perfectly every single time with just a push of a button.  This is where I guess you could say both sides of my brain argue with one another.  The engineer in me says ‘Yes, a human would write the code to program it, the human provides the recipe, measurements, etc.  The computer is merely carrying out all human commands that are provided.”  Makes sense, right?  If you code the software correctly, provide it with the right recipe, times, temps, measurements then yes it would come out perfect every time.

…but

1-4-15

…hold that thought.  Let’s look at it from the creative aspect, the cook point of view. We’ve all been there; followed the recipe to the letter only to have our stuff not turn out like the picture or taste the same as last time or taste ‘off’. So why does this happen?  Could be the quality of the ingredients changed – the meat may have not enough marbling in it or not enough, something is spoiled or old (dried spices lose their flavor after a while) or simply you wanted it in a healthier alternative.  Or better put you just need to taste the sauce until it’s perfect.  This is something that comes with practice and time.  Recipes are guidelines, only your tastes buds know when something is perfect FOR YOU.  You may like more salt, I may like less.  You may be allergic to nuts or hate bacon… whoa wait, if you hate bacon then we simply can’t be friends.  That’s just… Unamerican.  LOL just kidding.  I’ll eat your bacon.  You can have all the cherries then.  *wink*

On one hand it would be super cool to have features like this but I don’t know, perhaps it’s my age showing or more so my love for being in the kitchen, getting my hands dirty and knowing that *I* created that dish trumps having that push-the-button-and-it’s-done appeal. Now if we had it for cleaning, dusting and waxing… OH HELL YES!  Bring it on!  Just picking up after Mr. Fantabulous would be a god-send! Sorry baby, I love you to pieces but I so hate having to pick clothes up off the floor. And sure, I’d love it to take some work off of me; off of us.  Just think – if we had that Jetson like environment the robots could cut the grass, do the weeding, weedwhack and tend to the outside giving you/us more time for family and the important things in life.

But yet I struggle over this – would I want it, the Jetson-like perks?  Some days yes, some days no.  Or better yet, it would depend on what the perk was for.  For the outside and other chores, sure; I’d try it out.  For the cooking/baking… nah.  I need to be in the kitchen, sauce up to my elbows, flour in my butt cheeks (yes I wear pants when I cook…sometimes… lol) and be able to taste/smell/get lost in the ingredients.  As for the whole hover board and or flying car.  Oh hell yes!  I’m deathly afraid of heights and the hover board would scare the crap out of me but if it meant I could get to work faster and in turn have more free time to spend at home with Mr. Fantabulous I’d do it in a heartbeat.

So what about you?  Did you think by 2015 we’d be “living in the future” like the old movies portrayed?

Here’s to one amazingly fantastic week!

What great ideas. I love the bean burger. I have wanted to do a veggie burger sometimes but being allergic to mushrooms a lot of them had mushroom. So glad this is ‘rooms free. Then I love Thai Peanut sauce. Ebelskivers idea is to die for. Love them. Happy New Year! Oh and the Power Chicken Meatballs…I have a Costco bag of Protein powder and didn’t know what to make besides milkshakes.

Oh Jan I have a whole section on how to cook and bake with Protein Powder (https://www.thekitchenwhisperer.net/category/recipes/protein-powder-healthy-additions/). As for the veggie burgers I have a few on here that are mushroom free and go with all beans (and other veggies). Plus if you ever find a recipe that has shrooms in it and aren’t sure how to use something in its place, shoot me an email and I will be happy to help you out!
