Happy Sunday TKW Family! It’s time for another edition of my weekly menu to aide you in figuring out what to make for dinner this week. I am finally HOME HOME HOME for an extended amount of time. I don’t know what I’m more happier about – being with Mr. Fantabulous for a long stretch of time or… *hangs her head* my bed. LOL Well okay you all know the man trumps all but I’m telling you there is NOTHING about an amazing bed. Don’t get me wrong, I really like the hotel I stay at. The people are super nice, the rooms are pretty sweet, the food is good and the beds are actual real beds with real down pillows. HOWEVER it’s not MY bed, MY sheets, MY stuff. And while I take my one little pillow with me that is honestly 28 years old (my Mom gave it to me when I went away to college) and my one teddy bear to snuggle with in lieu of Mr. Fantabulous it’s just not the same.
I got home Saturday and once I unpacked, smooched my baby up one side and down the other and took a shower it was time to get all cozy up in my bed. BUT that had to wait as we had to go grocery shopping and return the rental car. Ugh… Trust me, I was not a happy camper. While we were out and about I realized that I hadn’t eaten yet and had some major tummy grumblings going on so we decided to stop and get a bite to eat. Now you all know that this girl is NOT a chain restaurant type of eater. I just don’t like it. I’m sorry but I find the quality of the food or better yet the attention to the food less. I’ve maybe had one or two chain places that have impressed me and made me want to go back but sadly those types of places are few and far between.
So as we drove around I said let’s try ‘X’ and we’d drive there only to find that closed. Okay seriously 3 places in a row like that were all boarded up and it was at that point I was getting ‘hangry’. Hangry: When you are so hungry that your lack of food causes you to become angry, frustrated or both. Have you ever been this way? Well this was me! I was irritable and starving. And the more my stomach growled the more mad I got because there were no food places open than the chain ones.
Mr. Fantabulous said “Honey let’s just go to ‘X’ (a pretty big seafood chain). It’s right there and we’re starving.” I quickly responded with “Baby, we went there 4 months ago after not being there in years because you said “maybe this time they’ll be different.” I hated their stuff – it was oversalted, had enough butter in the plate to make Paula Deen gag and it was WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY over-priced for the crap on the plate. Plus you said that we are to never ever go there again cause you hated it and that I should tell you this.”
… “but maybe this time it’ll be different.” <sigh> Yeah, nope. It was so bad that when you walked in you could smell the overpowering melted (someone needs to teach this seafood restaurant what clarified butter really is) butter and perhaps update the decor instead of the 1972 vintage look. So we sat down and was not met with a cheery waitress but rather some bitter 22 year old girl that I swear her face would have cracked if she smiled. I mean c’mon we all have bad days but when this is your job to interact with the public it’s not hard to at least fake a smile and be polite. The only thing that was decent was our caesar salads but then again it’s salad and you can’t really screw up a salad that much. However once the food came (without a smile) I looked down into my bowl of butter broth seafood (no it wasn’t supposed to be like this) and immediately felt gross. I looked at Mr. Fantabulous’ stuff and said “You’re not going to like that. The sauce is broke.” Of course he didn’t understand what I meant by it so I had to explain that a broken sauce is where instead of a thick cream, suddenly you have grainy bits of fat floating in a bowl of watery liquid. Appealing, huh?
After about 3 bites I pushed mine away. I felt like I had took a bath in all that butter and just felt gross. He didn’t even finish his which is not natural in any way. But what killed me is when that waitress brought us our check THEN she cracked a smile in hopes of gaining a tip. I mean really? I don’t expect you to be besties here but sweetie, you sucked at your job royally! As we left there, after wiping our face with a bajillion cleansing towelettes, we went to have dessert – ice cream. At least that was awesome.
Once we got home, unloaded the groceries I went off to reconnect with my bed for a quick 30 minute refresher while he went out to the garage to work on some guitar cabinet thing he’s building. So now I’m home for a while which means more time for Mr. Fantabulous, more quality bed time for me and more attention to you guys!
Here’s to you having one amazing week!
