Warm cheddar pizza dough stuffed with bbq pulled pork, mac and cheese, and extra cheddar makes this pizza dough puffs a must-make recipe! Easy, delicious, perfect for parties & absolutely irresistible!
Leftovers Are Never Boring In My House
Even as poor as we were, I was that child who never really appreciated leftovers. I saw a container of leftover food as a curse, rather than a blessing as I didn’t want the same ol’ thing.
However, my dear parents were SAINTS who taught me how to appreciate and transform those leftovers into something new and exciting.
It was then that I understood that you can make something delicious just out of a few ingredients
Grab Your Ingredients
I’d say the only real thing you’d have to make new (unless you’re like me and always have pizza dough made up) is the pizza dough.
- Prepared Pizza Dough – You’ll notice mine is ‘orangish’. I opted to add 3 Tablespoons of Cheddar Cheese Powder to my dough as I made it to give it more of a cheesy taste.
- Macaroni & Cheese – it’s best if it’s cool/cold
- BBQ Pulled Pork
- Slices or chunks of cheddar cheese (I used white)
- Egg Wash
- Oregano
Roll Out The Dough
Yes, you read that right. I’m telling you to use a rolling pin on pizza dough. I’m highly against them for making pizzas but for making these dough bombs, you need to.
- Roll it out into a rectangle as best as possible ~18″ long by 12″ wide
Layer The Ingredients
- Using a pizza cutter, cut the dough into 8 pieces.
- In the center of each piece of dough, add 1 thick slice of cheese, 1-2 Tablespoons of bbq pulled pork, & a heaping Tablespoon of mac & cheese.
- Grab opposite corners of each square, pulling up and over to join. Pinch shut
- Repeat with the opposite corners, pinching them together.
- Do this to the remaining pieces.
- Using a cupped hand, form each bomb into a roughly shaped ball and place it onto a lightly floured parchment-lined baking pan. Cover with sprayed plastic wrap and allow to double in size for 30 minutes while the oven heats up.
Bake Partially Then Add More Cheese
- Bake the puffs for 10 minutes, remove from the oven, and place more cheese on top of each one.
- Bake for another 5-10 minutes or until they are golden brown and the cheese is melted.
- Pull the tray from the oven and carefully transfer them to a cooling rack to prevent the bottoms from getting soggy on the pan.
- Sprinkle with oregano.
Let’s Eat!
These are uber cheesy with such an amazing flavor bomb explosion! That tangy bbq sauce melded with the cheese sauce from the mac & cheese. Every bite is better than the one before!
These are PERFECT for those Sunday football games, tailgating, or game nights with friends.
Make-Ahead
You can make these ahead and store them, covered, in the fridge for up to a week. To reheat, pop into a 350F oven and heat for about 10 minutes or until warmed all the way through.
What If I Don’t Have Pizza Dough?
No worries, I can help you easily adapt the recipe. By skipping a step you can get these into the oven faster which means faster to the mouth! On the downside, I think these taste a bajillion times better with pizza dough. It’s just a personal preference. Go with what you love but I do suggest you try it with pizza dough.
Easy Substitutions
- Crescent Roll Dough
- Puff Pastry
- Frozen Bread Dough (thawed)
Instructions Modifications
- You’ll need 2-3 tubes/sheets of crescent dough or puff pastry dough.
- If using puff pastry or crescent roll dough, once you assemble, you do NOT need to proof these. Just assemble them, brush on the egg wash, and bake.
- If using pre-made bread dough, you will need to follow the instructions as written.
