Ingredients

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup lemon juice
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon lemon zest

Instructions

  1. In a small saucepan, combine the water, lemon juice, zest and sugar together.
  2. Bring to a boil, reduce the heat, and simmer until the sugar has dissolved, about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  3. Remove the pan from the heat and allow the syrup to cool, about 20 minutes. This mixture will thicken upon cooling.
  4. Store in a lidded jar. in the fridge.

Notes

You can store at room temp and it’ll last 1-2 weeks.
To store longer, put in the fridge and heat up when you want to use it.

    Very good glaze! I used to glaze Christmas cookies where I don’t want to use much sugar powder. Also to make more complex taste I used pomegranate juice instead of lemon! Give nice deep red color and unique flavors!

          Hi Mary,

          Sure! It won’t be like a traditional confectioners’ sugar glaze but more of a light brush on. If you wanted to make it more of a true glaze I’d say mix in some of the lemon syrup with the confectioners’ sugar then drizzle it on.
